My heart and my prayers go out to the family, the Golden Gate M.B. Church family, and most of all to my good friend Rev. C.B.T. Smith. We have lost a great soul, but God knows best. Thank you Rev. Smith for so graciously giving to the Elite News Religious Hall of Fame museum, where you were in the first class 2000. You are a great example of a man of God, pastor, husband, and comunity leader, and this tribute to your wife, is part of your testamony.

Lot of Love Debra Blair Abron

Misty Clarice (Little Jenkins) Sanders (05.05.2008 @ 13:40:33)
Sister Rosie Lee Smith was a virtuous woman. (Prov. 31:10-31) She was the quiet giant, princess of peace, the spirit of comradery. She put on the whole amour of God, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace. (Eph. 6:10-17) She set the standard, values, and principles for the women of Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church where her husband Dr. C. B. T. Smith was the worlds? greatest pastor of pastor?s. His teaching and her values still remain with us continuously. Today, she sits in her rightful place among that great cloud of witnesses watching over us from above.

Your legacy that has been embraced by many shall always be remembered; it has provided a source to draw from throughout life circumstances.

Kandice Richardson (04.21.2008 @ 16:01:41)
I grew up in Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church when Pastor Smith and Sis. Smith were the spiritual heads of the church. Her tender, loving spirit was always a comfort to me as a child. I used to sit in the row behind her and she would always smile and pass me a peppermint. I admired her grace and beauty. She was definitely a true role model of what a Christian lady should be and how one should poise herself. I thank God for her life and hope that others will strive continue her legacy.

Greetings from Atlanta, GA. As I reflect on the life, love and legacy of Lady Rosie Lee Smith, I am reminded of the greeting in John's epistle: To the elect lady whom we love in the truth. She was a stalwart and great model for me as a young man to see the example of Christ and what a godly helpmate means to a man striving to serve and lead God's people. We mourn her passing on, but we also celebrate her attainment of God's reward for a job well done. Our prayers are with Pastor Smith and the Golden Gate Family.

Michael & Lillie Robertson (04.19.2008 @ 08:49:24)

As we look back over Sister Rosie Lee Hartfield Smith years at Golden Gate MBC, we remember a person who was dedicated to Christ and her church family. Her Christian attributes were always on display. She was eloquent, charitable, wise and Christ like in every way. My family and I pray God's blessings upon the Smith family. We encourage pastor Smith to keep doing what he's doing. He is such an insprirations to all preachers and pastors.

Sis. Toma Brown Fowler (04.18.2008 @ 21:25:11)
A death has occurred and everything is changed by this event. We are painfully aware that life can never be the same again, that yesterday is over, that relationships once rich have ended. The fact that Sis. Smith left behind a place that cannot be filled is a high tribute to her. Life can be the same after a trinket has been lost, but never after the lost of a treasure. The"treasured life" of Sis. Smith will be remembered eternally. Praise God for whom all blessings flow. May God continue to shower you with His love,

Hollie Lloyd (04.18.2008 @ 19:10:12)
You have touched the life of so many, and you passing away is not a sad thing, it is a celebration becuase everyone knows you had a good full, dedicated life. Heaven has a new angel now. Continue to watch over us from heaven

Tommy & Vernita Bowie (04.18.2008 @ 14:27:16)
Pastor Smith, while having grown up at Golden Gate and having heard hundreds of sermons that you delivered, the most powerful one has been the one you lived as a faithful and devoted husband to Sis. Rosie Lee Smith until death. God bless you for showing that by His grace we can make and keep a "till death do us part" commitment. As you have so many times sought to comfort others, we pray that you may be comforted with that same comfort that only our Heavenly Father provides. May God continue to bless and keep you.

Henrietta L. Adams (04.18.2008 @ 14:10:06)
Pastor Smith, I am thankful to have met and shared endearing times with Sis. Rosie Lee Smith. She gave encouraging words of wisdom to all, which impacted the lives of many in a positive way. May God provide you continually with His comfort, strength, and love during this time of bereavement! Be of good courage, for she has now overcome the pain and sorrows of this world; having transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. With Comfort and Blessings to you and the family.

Grace,Elegance,Kindness, and an ever present Smile, that is how I will remember her.Thank You both for showing us all how to carry our selves in and out of church, and how to grow in Christ. Amber, Air'eale, and Avery Williams (04.18.2008 @ 09:00:38)
To Pastor Smith and the Golden Gate family with whom you shared your loving wife with for so many years, Sis. Smith was the epitome of a "1st Lady". I believe that Maya Angelou refers to a woman such as Sis. Smith when she wrote ?A woman?s heart should be so hidden in Christ, that a man should have to seek ?Him? first to find her? a derivative of Col. 3:2-3 ?Set your mind on things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.? Sis. Smith was certainly "hid" in the arms of Christ and Rev. Smith, you sought Christ and for that he blessed you with a beautiful "Rose" that will last a lifetime. Continue to seek "Him". We pray your strength now and forever more. God Bless You and We Love You.

George T. Brooks, Sr. (04.18.2008 @ 08:47:26)
It is with deep regret that and I cannot be there with you in person. However, please be assured that I am praying for you. I want you to know that I share in your sorrows and your joys. I am sure you experience sorrow because one you love very dearly has gone from your presence. I also know that you experience some joy at this time because Sister Smith has moved from her tent in which she has lived for many years. Now she will live forever in a house, where God is the builder and owner. Despite the leaving of Sister Smith, please be assured that God never leaves nor forsakes his children. To Reverend C. B. T. Smith and each member of the family, these words are seasoned with my love and the love of God. God proved his love for us when he sent his Son into the world to die for our sins. He continues to prove his love for us by placing people in our lives who love us. Please accept these brief words as a token of love from Reverend George T. Brooks, Sr., Pastor of the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church.

Just want you to know I care and I am praying for you.

LaNece Hill (04.17.2008 @ 13:19:20)
Sis. Smith was the epitome of class. As a child I would love to just see her walk in the sanctuary with such glowing grace, at the time I did not know that it was the "holy spirit" that had her shinning that bright to me. I just knew I would LOVE to just see her coming. And as I got older, it's like the song says, "You have the Iook I would know her better. Thank you Sis. Smith for just walking into a room.

Sis. Linda Splatt (04.17.2008 @ 11:44:36)
Who can find a virtuous woman? She's worth more than gems of great price. Trust is hers from the heart of her husband; she does him well each day of her life. Favor's deceitful; beauty is vain, but she shall be praised who fears the Lord. Give her the fruits of her own labor; Yes, let her works give her praise in the gates. Prov. 31. Rev. Smith, thank you for teaching us how to live and love as a family. May God continue to bless you, Sis. Linda Splatt and Family

Gladys Dickerson (04.17.2008 @ 11:10:19)
Mrs. Smith was near and dear to me as I grew up in Golden Gate. I can remember her teaching me my first solo song. Is your all on the alter. It was an honor to have her as one of my mentors. Carla A. Robertson (04.17.2008 @ 10:37:40)
What a legacy to have been born and raised at Golden Gate Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. C.B.T Smith and his gracious wife "Rosie Lee". It was an honor for me to know Sis. Smith and to see a model of how a Christian woman should carry herself. She would talk softly, but her words carried so much weight in the lives of women. It is because of this leadership many of us have followed Matthew 28:19-20 "Go into all the world... As you and Sister Smith did I thank you for encouraging me to go and "live out my own soul salvation in fear and trembling".... I encourage you Pastor Smith with the words of one of her favorite songs " Ask the Saviour to help you, comfort, strengthen and keep you. He is willing to aid you. He will carry you through". Even through this.

Debra Anderson (04.17.2008 @ 10:33:14)
Our Dear Rev. Smith: May you be comforted in knowing that your beloved "Sporty" is rejoicing in glory. She is remembered greatly for her service as first lady; her humility in life; and a sense of class and sophistication that is reknown among those of us who were privy to have known her. Please find comfort in knowing that she was GOD's most highest gift to you. As a result of that marital anointing and the love you so obviously had for each other .... we the members of your church were the beneficiaries of the model example of adoration and the commitment the two of you had for each other. Be also comforted in knowing that those who you have served and prayed for these many years stand moreso ready to help pray you and your family through this period of bereavement. With our deepest condolences .... Debra Anderson and Children

Romans 8:28 says, "All things work together for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose." She was called to be our supreme example of a respected lady; our mother, our confidante, our friend. She will never be forgotten and she now rests peacefully in the cradle of Jesus' arms. May I reflect in me, the Christ she reflected to me. Your daughter and name sake, Jackie Burns and Christopher Burns-Thomas Torrance

Rev. C. B. T. Smith, I am praying for your strengh right now and the coming days, weeks, months, and years and that you will continue to lean on the Lord for all your help. I shall never forget the sermon you preached at my mother's service title "Praise Her at the Gates" from Proverbs 31. Now it is time to "Praise Sis. Smith at the Gates" and know that who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies. Her memory will live on.

Rev. Clarence & Mabel Robertson (04.16.2008 @ 22:53:09)

Possessing an ability to influence with poise, grace and character is a Heavenly Gift. The "Smith" leadership team demonstrated that it is less about word and more about deed that prevails in the end. The respect, love and care that you both demonstrated toward each other early on and you Pastor Smith in the end is a true example of what "till death do us part" really means. Lots of Love

Rev Smith, I am so sorry for your loss. I thought about all the thousands of lives you've touched over the years. You and Mrs. Smith have affected generations of people. Mrs. Smith was the first patron of my artwork years ago. This remains one of the proudest moments of my life because Mrs. Smith took out the time to encourage an aspiring artist about what it meant to illustrate scripture on canvas. Her words, "I know you can do it, because it's in you," ring in my ears. I will never forget her confidence in me. Her memory will be cherished in my heart as well as so many others. Her life is a celebration. And you sir, will always be in our prayers.
