Remembering Rev. C.B.T. Smith

Rev. C.B.T. Smith made his transition to glory on Saturday, June 13, 2009.

2 Timothy 4: 7 says,  "I have fought a good fight, I have finished
my course, I have kept the faith."

He ran a good race and is now resting in his new home over in
glory that he always sang about.

We welcome you to share your words of sympathy below.  You may also share how God blessed you though Pastor Smith's presence or words at some moment in your life, or perhaps  share a corporate prayer to God in memory of Pastor Smith.

It is with reverence to God our Father that we offer words of comfort to the family of Dr. C. B. T. Smith. We join with you in celebrating the home going of our beloved Pastor Emeritus. He taught us, he challenged us to grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord and Savior; and for that we are grateful. We loved him, but we humbly submit to the Will of God who does all things well. So be encouraged and keep the faith, because "I've Got a Feeling, Everything is Going to Be Alright!"

Rev. Smith was known for his Preaching, teaching and singing. BUT' O could'nt he pray. When the youth Dept. would go on summer trips. Rev. Smith would come to the fellowship hall and have prayer with all of the youth and counselors. He would pray so that when he finish no dry eye could be found .We felt the annointing in that place. and we would board those buses and have church all the way to our destination . When Rev Smith prayed Everything was alright. Thank you Rev. Smith for those prayers. We are still Living on those prayers today. We are reminded to HOLD TO HIS HAND, GOD' s UNCHANGING HAND . BUILD YOUR HOPES ON THINGS ETERNAL. HOLD TO GOD'S UNCHANGING HAND. THANK YOU PASTOR SMITH PRAY ON MY CHILD -PRAY ON MY CHILD YOU GOT A HOME ON HIGH. GOOD NIGHT REV. SMITH WE WILL SEE YOU IN THE MORNING. (WE LOVE YOU WITH ALL OUR HEARTS)

Pastor Isiah Joshua, Jr. pastor@smbcplano.org (06.17.2009 @ 02:00:50)
Pastor Smith was my friend and mentor. Contrary to popular belief, pastors also need someone to cry out to, from time to time. God placed two men in my life upon whom I could so cry; one of these men is Dr. Joseph R. Sheppard of the Ben Washington Baptist Church of Irving,TX and the other was the Late Dr. C.B.T. Smith. I speak for the entire Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Plano, TX, when I say that we are a better people because Dr. Smith passed our way. He told us that where there is no "rootage" there is no "fruitage". He said that we are known by our fruits. Pastor Smith your work is speaking for you. You have lived a superlative life on this side and I can envision you running and shouting on the golden paved streets on the other side. We are confident that we too shall see Him face to face one day. Until then, rest my brother and just know that we love you and will always remember you. You dwelled in the secret place of the Most High God and now you are abiding under the shadow of the Almighty. C.A.W.Clark, Cedric Britt and C.B.T. Smith ... have left a huge void in the pulpits of Dallas- Fort Worth.

May God strengthen the Smith family. In 1915 Rev. C. B. T. Smith was packaged by God as a treasured gift and sent down to us. We were tremendously blessed by this 'gift' for many, many years. As our free 94 years trial came to an end, the 'return to sender' label had to be affixed. This return was successfully processed at Heaven's Gate on Saturday. Sis. Rosie Lee Smith was one of the Angels on duty that day. Let us rejoice for the time that we had with our 'Giant' of a gift, Rev. Smith!! Although our 'gift' is back in the care of our Heavenly Father, let us not forget the lessons that we learned from Rev. Smith...our treasured gift!!!

I will always remember you Rev. Smith all the hugs you gave us after church. You are a great man & I thank you for all you did for myself and my family.God called you for the great walk that you would do before you were born and I am so greatful for the teachings that you taught us, you and Sis. Smith to always respect ourselfs. If it weren't for Rev. Smith so many kids would not have ever had a summer vacation. We learned and we had fun on all of our Convention trips. Thank you Chevon Ross

Rev. Smith made a great impact on my life when I started going with my wife. He was a man that showed you friendship, love, respect, and most of all "LOVE", I know I said it twice but that was the way he was. He would always treat you with the utmost respect and no question was to simple for him to give you an answer to. His preaching impacted my life so that one Sunday as I was leaving before the doors of the church was opened I just couldn't walk out of the front door. He was saying that I'm waiting on one more that the Lord is talking to. I turned around and walked down the aisle and when I did he said you are who I am waiting on. He is & was such a loving man. His teaching will stay with me and "I'm gonna strive to walk with the LORD just as he did so I can hear him call my name in the cool of the day". THANK YOU LORD FOR LETTING HIM CROSS MY PATH. A great man indeed! He preached our Usher's Annual in Austin, Texas every year for my paster Doctor B. W. McClendon, Sr and we had an awesome time every year. We are so grateful at St. James to have been introduced to such a great man of god. He always closed his sermon with "He has a new home over in Glory and its mine, mine, mine". He made it. He will truly be missed.

I thank God for having met and heard Dr. Smith, he will be sorely missed by all in the preaching fraternity.

There are not enough words to describe such a man as Pastor Smith! Although, he was never my “official” pastor, I felt as if he was. I had grown up in the church from a child. However, in the spring of 1983, Pastor Smith introduced me to the Holy Spirit at the Greater Mt. Zion Church in Austin,TX. It was their annual Spring Revival, Pastor Smith was the evangelist. That night he preached “The Last Night with the Frogs” from the book of Exodus. From that very moment my life changed for ever! To God be the glory! After moving to Dallas, I would see Pastor Smith around Dallas at varies places, I would often remind him of that night. I have thanked him on more the one occasion for that special night. It is with great sadness, that I (we) accept the will of God. So often I heard you say, “God knows whats best for us.” Therefore, in the words of Timothy - (you) have fought a good fight, (you) have finished (your) course, (you) have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for (you) a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give (you) at that day: and not to (you) only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. Good night my friend…we will see you in the morning…

I was blessed to see pastor but just a few hours before he died. Oh what a beautiful man! It is a comfort to know he is with his Lord and his Rosie

Ruthy Sellers ruthys43@prodigy.net (06.16.2009 @ 14:28:53)
Pastor Smith and the GGMBC Family gave those leaving home (Marietta, TX) to relocate to Dallas a place to call home and to be nurtured. We came and we loved the preaching, teaching, and fellowship, but most of all we got to know, love and respect Pastor Smith.
