Remembering Rev. C.B.T. Smith
Rev. C.B.T. Smith made his transition to glory on Saturday, June 13, 2009.
2 Timothy 4: 7 says, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished
my course, I have kept the faith."
He ran a good race and is now resting in his new home over in
glory that he always sang about.

Pastor Smith and the GGMBC Family gave those leaving home (Marietta, TX) to relocate to Dallas a place to call home and to be nurtured. We came and we loved the preaching, teaching, and fellowship, but most of all we got to know, love and respect Pastor Smith.

I first got a chance to hear Dr. CBT Smith in October of 2007 @ the St. John Baptist Church in Beaumont, TX. I was in awe when I heard this awesome man of God @ age 90 still proclaiming the unsearchable riches of God. My prayers go out to The Smith Family, The Golden Gate Church Family, & the city of Dallas. As the song Dr. Smith so often sang about " I Got a New Home Over In Glory and It's Mine"!!!

One of Rev. Smith words were Look-a- here children .God is able to do anything when and how he wants to do it. We were blessed to know a true man of God. He touched lives everywhere he stood, a man with a vision, a preaching warrior of the word. A wise man, he made the word plain and simple. We are certain that when God called Pastor Smith home the other day . He Smiled and said, Precious Lord take my hand lead me on let me stand. Our prayers are with the entire church family and all who knew Rev.Smith. His song was I got a feeling everything would be alright. It's alright Rev. Smith we know you are in good hands with the master and he will welcome you home, (Help me Lord Jesus)

I can still hear his voice ringing out. The way he would paint a picture with his words. The way he would make it so a 5 year old could understand it. When I go about my daily life I can recall his words like I heard them yesterday, 'The ungodly are NOT SO!' Can't y'all picture this? Michael is on the organ, Billy is on the piano, and C. B. T. is about to take his text! What fun they must be having now!

In 1952 Rev. C.B.T. Smith and his wife Rosie L. Hartfield Smith came to Golden Gate I was just about to turn 2yrs. old. My father told me that they took a liking to my family because not long after coming he had to bury my mother Loucile Lloyd,he has been our pastor, friend, teacher, confidant, and leader. He had the church to pray when my brother was mistakeningly accused of a incident when he was in the military and he told my fathe to not to worry because GOD was gonna work it out and he did. It's good to know a man who walked and talked to GOD on your behalf because things happened. When he would walk into any room he would light it up and he didn't just walk in he glided in as though his feet weren't touching the ground. He was a man dedicated to the LORD, his wife, community, and to his church family and I guess that's why we are a little selfish in sharing him with others. But because of his teaching telling us to not just take what he says to read the word for ourself so we would know. He's gliding with his SPORTY now and I'm working so that I can see him gliding again along with my family that he spoke over. My favorite sermon that he preached in the old church was " When the Eagle Stirred the Nest" as a kid it stirred me up. Family know that we are praying for your strength. in the coming days.

when we were growing up in the old church, after service we would run up to get a hug from Rev. Smith, he treated us all as if we were his own children. He taught us that GOD loved us even if we make a mistake and to trust him no matter what. I will truly miss him and I loved him.

What a great man. What a great lost. He will never be forgotten. I will always remember his preaching and teaching on Sunrise Service. He would always sing "I Got A New Home Over In Glory." Now, he can rejoice in his new home. God Bless.

Pastor Smith was a pastor's pastor. He touched my life in so many ways. I am thankful to God that God allowed our paths to cross in this life. He was a blessing to me, my wife and church (New El Bethel B.C., Dallas) as he shared with us the riches of God's Word. He was a "GIANT OF A PREACHER." Thank God for knowing C.B.T. Smith.

This servant, the greatest preacher I have ever known, was my Father in the Ministry. He ordained me in 1974, and mentored me. His wisdom and commitment to Christ guided many of us who were blessed to have him as our mentor and friend. My years at Golden Gate BC prepared me for over 26 years of pastoring, and I will always be indebted to his wise counsel and support. I know Heaven is where I want to go, so I can fellowship with him again.
