In Memory of
Mother Odessa
Jackson:
Words cannot
express how much I
admired Sis.
Odessa Jackson.
She will be greatest
missed. Not too
many musicians
still teach anthems
and hymns in the
Black Baptist
Church. When I was
a child, Sis.
Jackson taught
songs
of “HOLINESS" that
ushers in the Holy
Spirit, whether the
younger generation
wanted to hear
them or not. The
Golden Gate
Missionary Baptist
Church family has
lost a bright light
and faithful witness
for our Lord and
Savior, Jesus
Christ. My mother
and the Jacksons
were neighbors for
nearly six decades.
I was a playmate of
Sis. Jackson’s only
child, Jimmy, and
claimed him to be
my brother. I too
was an only child. If
there was greater
passion for
anything other than
Golden Gate
Baptist Church and
music, it was the
love for her
husband and son,
James W. and
James W. Jr. The
Jacksons was the
family in the
neighborhood that
many wanted to
mimic. Sis.
Jackson was a
gifted stay at home
mom that stayed
busy. She was the
Minister of Music
of our church for 56
years. She taught
music and voice in
her home on Cliff
Street. She was a
prolific seamstress
and tailor of
menswear and was
born with other
inexhaustible gifts
and talents. Of all
the many, many
conversations I had
with Sis. Jackson, I
can't remember a
time when she did
not share the
faithfulness of
God. Even in this
situation, God
shows His
faithfulness by
delivering her from
future pain and
suffering to eternal
rest with Him. I will
miss you Sis.
Odessa! I love you,
but God loved you
best.

I can't tell you how
much I enjoyed my
time at Golden
Gate a couple
weeks ago, the
people I met where
so kind and
welcoming which
means so very
much. I want to
thank you for
opening the doors
to me while I am
seeking a church
home. I am so
impressed with
what I saw and
experienced that I
want to continue
to be in your
midst. When I left
that day I could
hardly stop talking
about my
experience.
Everyone I talk to I
tell them how
being there was
good for my soul. I
have been looking
at the website
today and I would
like very much to
get involved with
some aspects of
your outreach,
recovery and
perhaps prison
ministry. You see I
have been there
and done that as
the young people
say and I have a lot
to offer those that
are trying to get
where I am now, in
my life. I look
forward to this
Sunday, Lord
willing and I live, I
want to be where I
am wanted. Thank
you all again for
everything.
