ARM Primary Care
Primary Care is a six-month intensive and complete program based on Christ-centered 12-step recovery curriculum.
During the first four months, outside contact is limited as each client focuses on his personal development through substance abuse treatment, life skills and character development classes and Bible study. Clients are required to perform community service, generally through work at Golden Gate’s Food Share distribution center.
The men participate in the regular life of the church by singing in the choir, attending Sunday worship and Sunday school and going to prayer meetings.
Clients are also provided transportation to AA/NA meetings at other locations. Meetings at ARM are open to anyone. Through regular classes clients must learn life skills, anger management, relapse prevention. They are given a syllabus with an orientation of scriptures and recovery material they must lean for evaluation at eligibility, where they go before the staff and peers for evaluation.
A support group system is developed when the men enter the program. The peer-counseling environment builds the self-esteem of clients who are at the lowest point in their lives. Hope by example, through the ARM alumni, continues to support the group through mentorship and financial support.
We have six houses in which clients reside, usually with 8 men to one house. Here, they learn people skills, how to communicate and take care of the home. They learn accountability and transparency.
An important component of Primary Care is attendance in family support meetings. These meetings take place each Saturday and provide not only structured communication with the client, but more in-depth discussions with counselors to help family members understand addiction and reconnect with their loved ones.
